Can You Connect SMTP Providers To Emailchaser?

Updated November 2025

You cannot connect SMTP providers (like SendGrid & Mailgun) to Emailchaser.

In this article, I'll explain why, and what you should do instead:

- Why can't you connect SMTP providers to Emailchaser?
- What should you do instead?
- Final thoughts

What is an SMTP provider?

SMTP providers allow you to send emails from their email servers.

This means that you don't need to configure your own email server, and instead can sign up for an account, and start sending emails almost immediately.

Some examples of SMTP providers are:

  • SendGrid
  • Mailgun
  • Brevo
  • Amazon SES

SMTP providers are used for transactional emails. For example, if you sign up for an account on a website, and you receive an automated email asking you to verify your email address, then this is an example of a "transactional" email.

SMTP providers don't allow their users to send cold emails because they don't want people sending spammy emails from their email servers, which will cause their server IPs to get blacklisted when they inevitably receive a high spam complaint rate.

They only allow you to send emails to people that "opted-in" to receive your emails, such as people that signed up for your product or service i.e. people that are expecting to receive an email from you.

Why can't you connect SMTP providers to Emailchaser?

Emailchaser doesn't allow its users to connect SMTP providers for several reasons:

  1. SMTP providers don't allow cold email, so if you send cold emails from their platforms, you will be banned almost immediately. We don't allow our users to do this as it's not sustainable or a good use of time as the end result of being banned is inevitable.

  2. SMTP providers have poor deliverability. If you send cold emails from an SMTP provider, then your emails will likely go to spam or the promotions tab, and you will receive less replies.

  3. The average person that uses SMTP providers to send cold emails doesn't know what they are doing, and is sending low quality / spammy emails. We don't want our IPs / network associated with low quality sending in order to protect our user base.

What should you do instead?

The best way to send cold emails is from Google Workspace email accounts.

Google Workspace email accounts have the best deliverability, meaning that you will land in the primary inbox and receive more replies.

You can connect your Google Workspace email accounts to Emailchaser, and use our "inbox rotation" feature to scale your sending volume without going to spam.

The easiest way to set up Google Workspace email accounts is by using Emailchaser's "done-for-you" setup service.

Final thoughts

I recommend that you don't use SMTP providers to send cold emails, as your emails will likely go to spam.

Instead, you should use Google Workspace email accounts, which you can connect to any cold email sequencer (like Emailchaser).
