Updated July 2026
Apollo.io is a giant B2B sales platform: a database of 275M+ contacts (by its own count), plus sequences, a dialer, and enrichment.
It's an impressive prospecting tool, but a lot of people look for alternatives when they use it for cold email specifically: pricing is per seat with a credit system on top (and unused credits expire), each connected mailbox has daily sending caps, and the sending side has always felt secondary to the database.
Note: I'm the founder of Emailchaser, so I'm biased — but everything below is fact-based, and I've given every tool a fair shake.
Here are the alternatives I cover:
1. Emailchaser
2. Instantly
3. Smartlead
4. Lemlist
5. Hunter
6. Snov.io
Apollo.io pricing explained
When to choose Emailchaser
| Tool | Starting price | Best for | Sending accounts | Key gap vs Emailchaser |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Emailchaser | $47/mo (30 accts) · $297/mo (unlimited) | All-in-one, deliverability-first cold email | Up to 30 / Unlimited | — |
| Instantly | ~$47/mo (as of 2026) | Big bundled lead database | Unlimited | No double-verification; cost climbs with credits |
| Smartlead | ~$39/mo (as of 2026) | Agencies & developers (API + white-label) | Unlimited | No double-verification; steeper UI |
| Lemlist | ~$55/mo (as of 2026) | Personalization & multichannel | Varies by plan | No real Sales CRM; warmup-reliant |
| Hunter | ~$34/mo (as of 2026) | Simple email finding + light campaigns | Capped (~10) | Finds ~21% fewer emails; no Sales CRM |
| Snov.io | ~$39/mo (as of 2026) | Cheap finder + drip campaigns | High/unlimited (plan-dependent) | Credit-metered; single verification |
Emailchaser is the alternative for people who came to Apollo for cold email rather than the database. It's built around one job: getting your emails delivered and replied to, at scale.
The biggest difference is double-verification: every lead is checked by two independent providers (BounceBan and Enrichley), and a lead is only emailed if both mark it valid, which keeps bounce rates sub-1%. Apollo verifies contacts once against its static database, which is why so many Apollo users complain about bounces on exported lists. You can test the difference yourself with our free Email Finder and Email Verifier.
Instead of a static database, Emailchaser's Lead Finder is a Chrome extension that pulls leads straight from LinkedIn Sales Navigator — the most accurate B2B source, because people update their own LinkedIn profiles. Pricing is flat, not per-seat: $47/mo for up to 30 sending accounts, or $297/mo for unlimited accounts with inbox rotation at scale, with unlimited team seats on both plans. One thing we deliberately don't do: Emailchaser has no email warmup, by design — I think warmup doesn't work, and we rely on double-verification, inbox rotation, and good infrastructure instead.
Best for: Teams who want find → verify → send → manage in one deliverability-first tool, without per-seat pricing. See pricing.
Instantly is the closest thing to Apollo's "database + sending" bundle among the dedicated cold email tools. Outreach plans start around ~$47/mo (as of 2026), and bundles that add its 450M+ lead database start around ~$94/mo. You get unlimited sending accounts, warmup, and done-for-you email accounts.
The honest gaps: there's no double-verification, so bounce risk is higher, and because features are split across plans and credit packs, the true cost climbs — the same complaint many people have about Apollo's credits. I cover this in more depth in my Instantly alternatives roundup.
Best for: Senders who want a big built-in lead database with unlimited sending accounts.
Smartlead is the strongest pick if Apollo's sending limits are what pushed you away. Every plan includes unlimited sending accounts, starting around ~$39/mo (as of 2026), and its API and white-label options make it popular with agencies and developers.
The gaps: no double-verification, $29/mo per extra client workspace (Emailchaser's sub-workspaces are free), and a steeper learning curve than most tools here.
Best for: Agencies and developers who need a robust API and white-labeling.
Lemlist starts around ~$55/mo (as of 2026) and comes with a 650M+ lead database, so it can genuinely replace Apollo's data layer for many teams. Its standout strength is personalization — dynamic images, video, and landing pages — plus multichannel (LinkedIn and calls) on higher tiers.
The gaps versus Emailchaser: no real Sales CRM for managing replies, multichannel seats get pricey, and deliverability leans on lemwarm warmup rather than verification.
Best for: Senders who lead with heavy personalization and multichannel sequences.
Hunter is the pick if you mostly used Apollo to find email addresses. It's a well-known email finder with a verifier and basic campaigns, with tiers around ~$34–104/mo (as of 2026).
The gaps: Hunter caps you at ~10 sending accounts (so you can't scale via inbox rotation), has no LinkedIn email finder, and no Sales CRM. In our 100-person study, Hunter found emails for 67% of contacts versus 88% for Emailchaser's finder — about 21% fewer — because it only scrapes publicly listed emails. Full breakdown in Hunter.io vs Emailchaser.
Best for: Occasional senders who mainly need a simple, reputable email finder.
Snov.io is a budget-friendly Apollo alternative that combines an email finder, verifier, LinkedIn extension, drip campaigns, and warmup, starting around ~$39/mo (as of 2026).
The gaps: everything is credit-metered (finding and verifying both burn credits), campaign recipients are capped by plan, and verification is single-pass rather than double. It's a lot of tool for the money, but you'll feel the meter as you scale. I compare it in detail in my Snov.io alternatives guide.
Best for: Budget-conscious senders who want finder + campaigns in one cheap tool.
Since "Apollo.io pricing" is half the reason people end up on pages like this, here's the short version (all figures as of 2026 — check Apollo's live pricing page before you buy):
Three things to watch beyond the sticker price. First, it's per seat, so a five-person team on Professional is thousands of dollars per year, not "$79". Second, the credit system is the real cost driver — email and phone credits are metered, unused credits expire each billing cycle, and overage credits cost extra. Third, sending limits: Apollo caps how much each connected mailbox can send per day, and its infrastructure isn't designed for large-scale inbox rotation, which is why high-volume senders typically pair Apollo's data with a dedicated sending tool — or replace both halves with an all-in-one like Emailchaser, which has flat pricing (no seats, no expiring credit buckets — verification credits are a transparent $0.0017 each).
If your frustrations with Apollo are bounced emails, per-seat pricing, expiring credits, or daily sending caps, Emailchaser fixes all four: double-verification for sub-1% bounce, flat plans with unlimited seats, transparent pay-as-you-go verification credits, and unlimited sending accounts on the Professional plan.
Stick with Apollo if what you really need is its enormous searchable database with intent data and a built-in dialer — as a data platform it's genuinely strong. As a cold email tool, it isn't.
For cold email specifically it's Emailchaser, which replaces Apollo's static database with LinkedIn-sourced leads, adds double-verification for a sub-1% bounce rate, and uses flat pricing instead of per-seat plans with expiring credits.
As of 2026, Apollo has a free plan, with paid plans starting around ~$49/user/mo (Basic) and ~$79/user/mo (Professional) billed annually — monthly billing costs more, and email/phone credits are metered on top.
Apollo is strong as a B2B database, but for cold email it caps daily sends per mailbox and verifies contacts only once, so bounce rates run higher than dedicated tools; most high-volume senders pair its data with a separate sending platform or switch to an all-in-one.
No serious cold email platform is fully free, but Emailchaser's Email Finder and Email Verifier are free to try, and its Starter plan is $1 for the first month before $47/mo.
Not a static one — Emailchaser's Lead Finder exports leads and emails directly from LinkedIn Sales Navigator, which stays current because people maintain their own profiles, and every email is double-verified before sending.
Smartlead, thanks to its API and white-labeling — though Emailchaser is a strong agency pick too, with unlimited free client sub-workspaces versus Smartlead's $29/mo per workspace.
Emailchaser is the Apollo alternative I'd recommend to most people sending cold email: fresher LinkedIn-sourced leads, double-verification for sub-1% bounce, and flat pricing that doesn't punish you for growing your team.
