Bluehost SMTP, IMAP and POP3 settings
Bluehost sells two different mailboxes that need different settings. Professional Email is Titan underneath, so its servers are imap.titan.email and smtp.titan.email, while the older cPanel mailboxes use your own domain name. Shared hosting caps outgoing mail at 500 messages an hour per domain, and going over that produces a Speed Limit Exceeded bounce instead of a delivery.
For incoming mail, use the IMAP server mail.yourdomain.com on port 993, or POP3 at mail.yourdomain.com on port 995. Pick the exact values from the tool above and copy them straight into your mail client.

Work out which mailbox you have
Sign in at https://www.bluehost.com/my-account/login and open the Email tab. Professional Email and cPanel Email are listed separately and do not share server names.

Professional Email: turn on third-party access
Go to Email > Professional Email > Login to Webmail, click the gear icon at the top right, choose Enable Titan on other apps and confirm.

Bluehost's own article gives the secure settings as yourdomain.com (no mail. prefix) with IMAP 993 or POP3 995 incoming and SMTP 465 outgoing, with outgoing authentication switched on. The non-SSL settings use mail.yourdomain.com with IMAP 143 or POP3 110 and SMTP 25, or 587 as the alternate SMTP port.

Which port should you use for Bluehost?
SSL/TLS on 465 (recommended) or STARTTLS on 587.
STARTTLS
Starts as a plain connection, then upgrades to an encrypted one. The modern standard for sending.
SSL/TLS
Encrypted from the first byte. Widely supported and a good choice when 587 is blocked.
Plain SMTP
Meant for server-to-server relay. Home networks and cloud hosts block it, so do not use it to send from a client.
Why your Bluehost connection is failing
The failures people actually hit with Bluehost, and what fixes each one.
Shared plans allow 500 outgoing messages an hour per domain. Wait for the next hour, spread the send out, or ask Bluehost to raise the cap with a reason.
Titan blocks outside apps until you enable them. Open webmail, click the gear icon and choose Enable Titan on other apps.
Bluehost lists this as an SMTP authentication problem or a mailbox that is over its disk quota. Turn on outgoing authentication in the client and clear space in the mailbox.
Bluehost servers accept 50 MB over SMTP and webmail, but encoding inflates a file by roughly 40 percent, so keep the total under 35 MB or send a download link.

Bluehost's own guide says to tick the outgoing server authentication box and set SMTP to 465 for SSL or 587 without it.

Bluehost says to open the SMTP server's Advanced settings and set Authentication to Password.
Sending cold email through Bluehost
Bluehost caps shared hosting at roughly 150 messages per hour per account. Sign in with your full email address and the mailbox password you set in cPanel.

The account limits summary states 500 outgoing an hour per domain on shared hosting, while a troubleshooting article mentions a default of 150 an hour. Treat 500 as the ceiling and 150 as a figure some accounts may sit at. Ask support what your account is set to before planning a large send.
For a cPanel mailbox, do I type mail.mydomain.com or just mydomain.com?
Bluehost's own setup article puts your bare domain, yourdomain.com, in the secure SSL/TLS settings and mail.yourdomain.com in the non-SSL settings. If either one throws a certificate warning, open Connect Devices in cPanel and use exactly what it prints for your account, since that is generated from the certificate actually installed on your server.
