Turn on IMAP/SMTP in Naver Mail settings before connecting: external access is off by default.

Since 24 June 2025 Naver has demanded two-step verification plus an application password on every POP3, IMAP and SMTP connection. That carries a hard consequence: two-step verification needs the Naver app on a phone registered in your own name, so anyone who cannot pass that check, which Naver says often means people living abroad, cannot use IMAP or POP3 at all.
For incoming mail, use the IMAP server imap.naver.com on port 993, or POP3 at pop.naver.com on port 995. Pick the exact values from the tool above and copy them straight into your mail client.
Checked against Naver Mail's own documentation: help.naver.com. Ports and limits change, so check there too if something will not connect.

Wrong credentials, not a wrong port, are the usual reason a Naver Mail connection fails. These are the exact values to type.

Turn on two-step verification
From naver.com click 네이버ID, then 보안설정 > 2단계 인증, and set it up with the Naver app on your phone. Naver blocks POP3 and IMAP without it.
Create an application password
Go to 네이버ID > 보안설정 > 기본보안설정 > 2단계 인증 > 관리, open 애플리케이션 비밀번호 관리, choose the app type and press create. The password is displayed once.
Switch IMAP on inside Naver Mail
In the PC web mail, use the left menu 환경설정 > POP3/IMAP 설정 > IMAP/SMTP 설정 and set IMAP/SMTP 사용 to 사용함.
Set the original-copy option before using POP3
On the POP3/SMTP 설정 tab set 원본 저장 to keep the original in Naver Mail. Left on the setting that follows the mail program, a POP3 client can delete your web mail for good.
Enter the servers in your client

SSL/TLS on 465 (recommended) or STARTTLS on 587.
STARTTLS
Starts as a plain connection, then upgrades to an encrypted one. The modern standard for sending.
SSL/TLS
Encrypted from the first byte. Widely supported and a good choice when 587 is blocked.
Plain SMTP
Meant for server-to-server relay. Home networks and cloud hosts block it, so do not use it to send from a client.
The failures people actually hit with Naver Mail, and what fixes each one.
Both usually mean the client still holds an outdated password. Open the account's incoming server settings and outgoing server settings separately and paste the current application password into each.
Since 17 January 2024 Naver can flip IMAP/SMTP 사용 back to 사용 안 함 after 90 days of abnormal login attempts or a broken client link. Re-enable it under 환경설정 > POP3/IMAP 설정.
Naver states that two-step verification is then impossible and POP3/IMAP cannot be used, with no exception path. The web mailbox and the Naver Mail app remain available.
With POP3 and 원본 저장 left on the setting that follows the mail program, Naver deletes the original permanently and cannot restore it. Set 원본 저장 to keep the copy in Naver Mail, or rebuild the account as IMAP.
Naver allows 100 addresses per message counting To, Cc and Bcc together. Split the list. If you also cross the undisclosed daily cap, sending can stay blocked for up to 24 hours.
Naver deliberately keeps its daily send cap secret; crossing it can take up to 24 hours to clear, and messages carrying large files are limited to 10 sends a day.
Recipients per message
100 addresses per message, counting To, Cc and Bcc together
Max attachment
10 MB per ordinary attached file; anything larger becomes a large file, up to 2 GB each and 10 per message
Outlook
Naver's manual setup guide puts the Naver ID in the username field and specifies TLS in Outlook 2016 but STARTTLS in Outlook 2019 for SMTP on port 587.
Thunderbird
Naver's Thunderbird guide fills the username with the full mail address rather than the ID, with incoming 993 SSL/TLS and outgoing 587.
Apple Mail
Mac Mail configures itself from the address and application password, and Naver warns that deleting a message there deletes it on the server too.
Per-account daily caps apply. Turn on IMAP/SMTP in Naver Mail settings before connecting: external access is off by default.
Those caps make single-mailbox sending fine for personal mail but a poor fit for cold outreach at volume. Emailchaser spreads sending across warmed inboxes and manages deliverability, so you can scale without burning Naver Mail accounts.
Setting up more than one mailbox? These sit in the same category as Naver Mail.
What are Naver Mail's SMTP settings?
Naver Mail's outgoing (SMTP) server is smtp.naver.com. Use port 587 (STARTTLS) or 465 (SSL/TLS). SSL/TLS on 465 (recommended) or STARTTLS on 587. Sign in with your full email address and password (or app password).
What is Naver Mail's IMAP or POP3 server?
Naver Mail's incoming IMAP server is imap.naver.com on port 993 (SSL/TLS). If you prefer POP3, use pop.naver.com on port 995.
Which port should I use for Naver Mail?
Use port 587 with STARTTLS wherever it's offered, it's the modern standard for authenticated sending. Port 465 with SSL/TLS is a solid alternative. Avoid port 25, which most networks block for client sending. Naver Mail's recommended value is above.
Why won't my Naver Mail SMTP connection work?
Check authentication first: Turn on IMAP/SMTP in Naver Mail settings before connecting: external access is off by default. If two-factor authentication is on, create an application password in your Naver account security settings. Then confirm the host, port and security method match exactly, a 587/SSL or 465/STARTTLS mismatch will fail to connect.
Can I send bulk or cold email through Naver Mail?
Not at scale. Per-account daily caps apply. Providers throttle bursts to fight spam, so pushing cold email through one mailbox hits limits and wrecks deliverability. High-volume outreach belongs on dedicated infrastructure that spreads sending across warmed inboxes, which is what Emailchaser does.
Do I really need two-step verification for one mail app?
Yes. Naver changed the rule on 24 June 2025 so that POP3, IMAP, SMTP and external mail import all require two-step verification plus an application password. Naver's published answer to complaints is that these connections happen in outside programs, apps and sites, so the stronger check is required.
Can I look up an application password again later?
No. Naver shows it once for security and cannot show it again, so create a new one if you lose it. Deleting unused ones is encouraged, and turning off two-step verification deletes every application password at the same time.
How long do Naver's large attachments stay available?
Thirty days from the moment the file was attached, with 100 downloads shared across everybody. A download by the sender counts against the same 100. Sending one large file to many recipients can therefore use the allowance up before the last few people collect it.
