Your server name depends on the part of your address after the @ sign. mobile.charter.net covers charter.net, spectrum.net and bresnan.net. Addresses ending twc.com, and most rr.com ones, use mail.twc.com. brighthouse.com and the Bright House rr.com areas use mail.brighthouse.com. Same ports in all three cases.

Spectrum SMTP, IMAP and POP3 settings

Spectrum email is run by Charter, and the server you point your app at depends on which company originally issued the address. Charter.net and spectrum.net addresses use mobile.charter.net, Time Warner and Road Runner addresses use mail.twc.com, and Bright House addresses use mail.brighthouse.com. Spectrum stopped including email with new residential accounts in 2024, so nobody can create a fresh mailbox any more; existing addresses keep working while the internet service is active.

For incoming mail, use the IMAP server mobile.charter.net on port 993. Pick the exact values from the tool above and copy them straight into your mail client.

Checked against Spectrum's own documentation: spectrum.net. Ports and limits change, so check there too if something will not connect.

What to enter as your Spectrum username and password

Wrong credentials, not a wrong port, are the usual reason a Spectrum connection fails. These are the exact values to type.

Username

Your full Spectrum email address including the domain, for example name@charter.net

Password

The password for that Spectrum username, the same one used to sign in at spectrum.net. Sub accounts each have their own.

How to set up Spectrum in a mail client

The exact path through Spectrum's own settings, in order.

  1. 1

Check you already have a Spectrum mailbox

Sign in at https://www.spectrum.net and look for your email address under the Internet section. Spectrum no longer creates new mailboxes for residential accounts, so if there is not one already there is no way to add one.

  2. 2

Look up the server for your address

    charter.net and spectrum.net use mobile.charter.net. twc.com and anything ending .rr.com use mail.twc.com. brighthouse.com uses mail.brighthouse.com.

  3. 3

    Set incoming mail to IMAP

Use the hostname for your address on port 993 with SSL turned on.

  4. 4

    Set outgoing mail

Same hostname, port 587, encryption set to TLS or SSL/TLS rather than plain SSL, with outgoing authentication turned on.

  5. 5

Enter the full address as the username

Put the whole address, domain included, in both the email field and the username field on both servers.

Which port should you use for Spectrum?

STARTTLS on 587 with authentication required.

587Recommended

STARTTLS

Starts as a plain connection, then upgrades to an encrypted one. The modern standard for sending.

465Not supported

SSL/TLS

Spectrum does not accept SSL/TLS on 465. Use the STARTTLS port instead.

25Not supported

Plain SMTP

Meant for server-to-server relay. Home networks and cloud hosts block it, so do not use it to send from a client.

Why your Spectrum connection is failing

The failures people actually hit with Spectrum, and what fixes each one.

Mail works on Spectrum webmail but the app cannot send, showing an outgoing server error.

Set the outgoing encryption to TLS or SSL/TLS on port 587, not plain SSL, and tick the box saying the outgoing server requires authentication.

Settings copied from a charter.net guide fail on an rr.com or brighthouse.com address.

Spectrum keeps separate servers per legacy brand. Use mail.twc.com for twc.com and .rr.com addresses, mail.brighthouse.com for brighthouse.com, and mobile.charter.net for charter.net and spectrum.net.

You have Spectrum internet but no email option appears anywhere in your account.

Spectrum discontinued email with residential accounts in 2024 and its own moderators confirm the option cannot be reinstated. If you never had a Spectrum address you cannot create one now, so use an outside provider.

Sign-in is rejected when the username field holds only the part before the @.

Spectrum needs the full address, domain included, in the username field for both the incoming and the outgoing server.

Messages with big files attached bounce back.

A Spectrum message has to stay under 30 MB in total, and each individual attachment under 20 MB. Send a download link for anything larger.

A message to a long list of people is rejected before it leaves the outbox.

Spectrum allows at most 99 recipients on one message counting To, Cc and Bcc together, and at most 1,000 recipients across 24 hours. Break the list up or use a bulk sender.

Spectrum sending limits

Spectrum says it also caps how many messages an account can send per hour but does not publish that number.

Per day

1,000 recipients per 24 hours, or 100 messages per 24 hours if the account is less than a week old

Recipients per message

99 recipients per message, counting To, Cc and Bcc together

Max attachment

30 MB per message, 20 MB per individual attachment

Sending cold email through Spectrum

Per-account daily caps apply; Spectrum throttles bulk sending. Sign in with your full Spectrum email address and your Spectrum email password. No app password is needed.

Those caps make single-mailbox sending fine for personal mail but a poor fit for cold outreach at volume. Emailchaser spreads sending across warmed inboxes and manages deliverability, so you can scale without burning Spectrum accounts.

Other internet provider (isp) email

Setting up more than one mailbox? These sit in the same category as Spectrum.

Common questions about Spectrum SMTP settings

What are Spectrum's SMTP settings?

Spectrum's outgoing (SMTP) server is mobile.charter.net. Use port 587 (STARTTLS). STARTTLS on 587 with authentication required. Sign in with your full email address and password (or app password).

What is Spectrum's IMAP or POP3 server?

Spectrum's incoming IMAP server is mobile.charter.net on port 993 (SSL/TLS). POP3 is not supported.

Which port should I use for Spectrum?

Use port 587 with STARTTLS wherever it's offered, it's the modern standard for authenticated sending. Port 465 with SSL/TLS is a solid alternative. Avoid port 25, which most networks block for client sending. Spectrum's recommended value is above.

Why won't my Spectrum SMTP connection work?

Check authentication first: Sign in with your full Spectrum email address and your Spectrum email password. No app password is needed. No app password. If sign-in fails, reset the mailbox password in your Spectrum account. Then confirm the host, port and security method match exactly, a 587/SSL or 465/STARTTLS mismatch will fail to connect.

Can I send bulk or cold email through Spectrum?

Not at scale. Per-account daily caps apply; Spectrum throttles bulk sending. Providers throttle bursts to fight spam, so pushing cold email through one mailbox hits limits and wrecks deliverability. High-volume outreach belongs on dedicated infrastructure that spreads sending across warmed inboxes, which is what Emailchaser does.

Which server do I use for my old Road Runner address?

Anything ending in .rr.com, along with twc.com, uses mail.twc.com for both incoming and outgoing mail. Port 993 for IMAP, port 587 for sending. The address itself does not have to change.

Why does Spectrum give me only one email address?

Each Spectrum username is tied to a single mailbox. Households that already have Spectrum email can add sub accounts under the primary account, and each sub account then has its own username and its own mailbox.

I signed up with my Gmail address. Where is my Spectrum mailbox?

There is not one, and you cannot make one. Spectrum stopped including email with new residential accounts in 2024, so only customers who already had a Spectrum address still have one.
